Today our class looked at the “Ideate” stage of design thinking.  The students brainstormed ideas about the magnetic toy or game they would like to create.  Please ask your child about their ideas and support them in collecting recycled materials to build their toy or game.

We are beginning to learn about “Liquids” in Science. Today the students explored water.  They observed it, felt it and explored it using spoons, beakers, measuring cups and test tubes.  We discussed the importance of water.  Feel free to ask your child what he or she knows about water. What scientific facts can they share with you. The students are learning how to use a Storyboard as a plan for writing stories.  This Board will help them collect story elements prior to writing.  We as class created a class generated Storyboard about a book titled, “Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. It includes a beginning, middle and ending of a story. The students will have this storyboard when writing their own story. Dear Parents, Your child is coming home with his or her home journal today.  Please take a few minutes to read it over with your child.  This is their unedited work, therefore,  do not correct your child’s writing as we are working on their writing goals during class time. We spent some time learning about festivals that our Canadian Communities celebrate.  We learned an inuit game called leg pull.  The students had a lot fun trying it out on a gym mat. We also looked at some Ukrainian dances and are planning to learn one in the days ahead... We will be creating a device that keeps things cool or warm next week.  Please send in materials with your child if you have them at home by Tuesday.  A list was provided yesterday. Today the students spent some time reflecting about Remembrance Day.  Their feelings shone through their work.  They truly expressed how thankful they are for the soldiers and veterans that have brought “peace” to our Canada.
