Dear Parents, This week we spent a lot of time learning about the natural resources of Nunavut, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. When asking your child about what they know, remind them that a natural resource is not man made and is made by nature and is used for economic gain.   The students learned a new card game called “Sorry”.  It helps them add doubles quicker.  Feel free to play the game with your child if time permits. Important Information: Practise home reading daily. Please return all field trip forms as soon as possible.  Our class now has enough volunteers for the Aboriginal Center on May 29 but is in need for 2 parents to come with us to the Ed Center. Please gather any items listed in the email sent home regarding our Learning Commons. Have a great weekend! Sincerely, Mrs. Sayani

Dear Parents, The students are working cooperatively to complete their wordless stories. Each group has been working together to make a story that they will share with our class. It is great to see them become authors that illustrate and write together. We are busy making and creating a store in our classroom.  The students are using it as a math center whereby they can buy things and calculate and problem solve using money. Practise home reading daily. Please return both field trip forms as soon as possible.  Also, our class is in need of one more volunteer for the Aboriginal Center on May 29. Have a wonderful evening! Sincerely, Mrs. Sayani

Dear Parents, Thank you for coming out to our first Stampede breakfast at Ken Taylor School.  We would like to give a special thanks to our parent council for organizing such a fun event. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and had fun line dancing. Today we made a boat out of plasticine and tested it in water.  It needed these elements; high walls, wide deck and no leaks.  Feel free to ask your child about what happened to their boat, also what their next steps might be… Practise home reading daily. Please return both field trip forms as soon as possible.  Also, our class is in need of one more volunteer for the Aboriginal Center on May 29. Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Mother's Day to all our mom’s! Sincerely, Mrs. Sayani

Dear Parents, Today during group work, the students completed their storyboards together.  Our focus was on cooperating, sharing ideas and working together. Your child will be creating a class book with their group in the days ahead. We looked at materials that float or sink.  We listed the items that would be good to use when designing our own boats. Practise home reading daily. Your child will bring home two notices tomorrow. One is regarding our field trip to the Aboriginal Center and the other is a swimming lesson form. Please complete both these notices as soon as possible. Pancake Day is on Friday - Dress Western! Sincerely, Mrs. Sayani

Dear Parents, Your child learned how to do his or her home journal through an email today. They were so excited about it!  Please keep in mind that they are just beginning to use a keyboard and are learning.  There are some great websites for you to use at home for them to practise their keyboarding skills.  Dance Mat Typing is one that you can try at home. You are welcome to send an email back to your child about their learning at school. www.dancemattypingguide.com/dance-mat-typing-level-1/stage-1/ We are going to begin to learn about Boats and Buoyancy on Monday. Practise home reading daily. Our two field trips have been approved.  We will be going to the Aboriginal Centre on May 29 and the Education Centre on June 8.  In order for the trips to happen, we will need volunteers. Please look for notices regarding these two field trips in the upcoming weeks. Sincerely, Mrs. Sayani

Dear Parents, We are working on story writing together.  Our focus is on word choice; including adjectives and adverbs to enhance our writing piece.  Today we looked at a picture book and derived fascinating and interesting words to use in a sentence. Feel free to ask your child about the oral story that we created based on Bill Thomson’s wordless book. The students worked cooperatively together during math.  Their job was to figure out the faces, vertices and edges of 3D Shapes. Practise home reading this evening and please return the books daily as we use them for our personal reading time. Last week, two dates were mentioned regarding our field trips. The June 12 date is susceptible to change. Sorry for the inconvenience. The grade two team will update you as soon as we know. Sincerely, Mrs. Sayani
